Casting: “When you have More Cares than Faith”

How can this be happening?! Not again…facing another crisis, I cried out to God in anguish. My cries were met with silence. In the silence images, pictures, and memories paraded across my mind. I realized how I erred and missed God. I was guilty of “helping” God. Otherwise known as manipulating under the guise of fixing. I repented and asked God for wisdom on how to proceed. Sometimes loving people means allowing them to suffer the consequences of their behavior and choices. It means being authentic in all situations. If the situation is ugly, it does not necessarily require my assistance. There is a lesson in the life’s ugliness. The first person I needed to look at was me. God does not need our help orchestrating situations because he already has the answers. Our responsibility is simply to believe and act on how he leads us to respond. This is not an easy feat!. Our limbic system or fight/flight area in our brain drives us for a quick response. It is all driven by flesh and not spirit. The flesh drives, but the spirit guides. There are times when we need to respond quickly, for example dodging a speeding car as it careens toward you. The brain recognizes the threat and responds quickly. The pre-frontal cortex or thinking part of the brain takes a little longer to respond . This could explain why important decisions like buying car, moving to another location or marriage should be considered carefully. I remember using the method of sleeping on a important decison. This allowed my natural mind to process but also allows for one to seek God in prayer.

What do we do in crisis? How would God have us to respond?

I Peter 5:7

“Cast your care on him for he cares for us.”

According to the dictionary, “cast” means to throw or propel with force through the air by movement of the arm strength and hand.

Sometimes the time you need to respond logically can be found by thrusting with force the cares and worries we were never meant to carry.

In throwing our problems on the Father we free ourselves to live the life He promises us. He is the only one able to carry the problems. He carried them to the cross and made a way for us to have life more abundantly.

There is freedom in casting…in realizing we do not have to everything on our own and knowing that God can be trusted. He is faithful to perform all he promised us.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you are weary and burdened, I will give you rest”
